Crochet: Broomstick Lace

(This is a post I made a while ago, but I decided to translate it from Norwegian to english)

I'd like to show you how to crochet broomstick stitches.
They look something like this.

Stuff you need:

Yarn, I'm using some boring gray wool I had laying around.

A stick with the thickness you would like it to be, and it should of course be something that goes with the size of your yarn and needle. I have this huge popsicle thingy. (You could also use an actual broomstick here).

Last and actually least, you need the crochet needle itself. I'm using 4 mm cause that's what goes with my yarn.

The crocheting itself, yay:

Start by making a number of chains that you can divide by five. I made 10 ch, that makes two broomstick stitches.

Pull the loop that is usually on the needle, over the stick.

Take your needle through the next ch, and pull up the thread to make another loop.

Take the loop you just made over the stick aswell.

Make loops through all the chains.

Put your needle through five of the loops.

Make 1 sc to pull all the loops togheter.

Pull the loops you just connected, off the stick.

Then make 5 sc inside the loops.

Do the same thing to the next one.

Make sure to crochet tight enough when you crochet over to the next loop, this doesn't look very good when its floppy!

When you have made 5 st in all your loops, you should have the same amount of stitches as you started with, so for me that's ten.

When making more rows, you just take the loop over the stick and do the exact same as before!

After a few minutes, it looked like this. Remember, you can make this as big or small as you'd like, so get creative! This stitch is great for scarves, bags, clothes, bracelets and more!
